The ABA I is a plant for the combined treatment of paper wastewater (Annex 28 AbwV), other industrial wastewater (Annex 22 AbwV) and sanitary wastewater (Annex 1 AbwV), consisting of a mechanical pre-cleaning, anaerobic cleaning and an aerobic cleaning. The cooling takes place before the biological cleaning. The capacity for the paper waste water 6 240 m 3 / d and 32 000 kg COD / d (measured at the inlet of the anaerobic stage). The capacity for sanitary and other industrial wastewater is 1 085 m 3 / d and 1 150 kg COD / d. The mechanical and biological sludge of the plant increase after thickening of the paper mill. The plant is to be expanded to provide redundancy capacity for inspection and maintenance.

In the pellet store, excess pellet sludge from the anaerobic stage can be stored. From here it can either be discharged by means of a mobile sludge pump or transferred to one of the other reactors. The planned pellet store will be built as a cylindrical stainless steel container north of the existing anaerobic reactors.
