Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG (SWD) operates a biomass power plant at the Garath site, which also supplies the Benrath network via an existing district heating transport pipeline. In the future, SWD plans to be able to supply the Benrath and Garath island grids with waste heat and CHP heat via Henkel AG's industrial site in Düsseldorf-Holthausen.

The waste and CHP heat is taken from the following two sources:

- CHP heat from a 4.8 bar process steam rail by means of heating condensers (2 x 15 MWth)

- Waste heat from an exhaust gas heat exchanger (AWÜ, 4.5 MWth), which uses the residual heat from the boiler 2 and gas turbine generation rails and thus improves the energy efficiency of the power plant.

The object of the contract is the construction of a building and the construction and commissioning of the plant and I&C technology for the energy center, the chimney including exhaust gas heat exchanger and the connecting piping systems.

The contractor shall only be commissioned if the competent bodies of SWD agree to the order described here. If the committee approval is refused, the contractor may not assert any claims, in particular no claims for damages, against the Client.

As part of the supplies and services to be provided in Lot 1, a new building (energy centre) is to be constructed and the following plant components installed:

- Energy centre building (approx. 25 m x 27.5 m x 11.96 m (L x W x H))

o Gross floor area approx. 690 m²;

o Converted room approx. 6,500 m³

- 2 pressure maintenance for heating water and coupling circuit

In addition, the exhaust gas heat exchanger in combination with a new chimney forms an essential part of this batch. With this, the previously unused exhaust gas heat is made usable all year round for the heat supply of SW Düsseldorf. The following system components must be installed:

- New steel chimney with a height of 48.7 m and a diameter of 3.0 m

- Flue gas heat exchanger with 4.5 MWth (installation in exhaust pipe)

The heat sources are connected via pipelines that are laid on pipe bridges. These are "merely" used for heat transport. Control engineering operations do not take place in this section.
