Over the course of 2021, this project will undertake engineering works to enhance the in-field topography and disconnect the areas from the landscape drainage regime in order to provide habitats for wetland birds. We will create discrete hydrological units across the Seasalter Levels designed to capture rainfall and be supplemented by surface water abstractions, in order to provide the required hydrological conditions for the desired habitat. To do this, groundworks are required to create the water retaining features and, to improve the habitat more generally. Using a cut and fill approach, these works should create a number of new or modified structures during a programme of phased groundworks including the creation of: islands, rills, perimeter lips, low point 'plugs', crossing points/culverts, crossing points /dams, ditch reprofiling and the decommissioning of selected land drains. In addition, we require the supply and installation of a box culvert crossing and some areas to be dressed with hard standing in areas used for livestock management and turning points for vehicles. The winning Tender bid will become Principal Contractor for the Seasalter North unit which includes Alberta and Whitstable Bay Estate (known as 'WBE') areas.
