Description:
Furniture and lighting purchases and renovation of old furniture, Biocenter 1

The target of the procurement is the acquisition of furniture and lighting for the lobby and restaurant area of the University of Helsinki Biocenter 1, as well as the renovation of old furniture.

Biocenter 1 is a laboratory building designed by Kaarina Löfström, which was the first of the biocenters to be completed in 1995. The building is one of the central laboratory buildings on the Viikki campus and an important meeting place on campus.

In the construction project, the property's canteen and lobby areas will be modernised. The focus of the renovation is on improving the efficiency of the restaurant area's operations and dining comfort. The comfort of the dining situation is improved with various acoustic and furniture solutions. The facilities to be equipped are partly restaurant facilities, which means that furniture maintenance and cleaning have been taken into account in structural and material solutions.

With the improvement of the restaurant area, broader operational goals have also been set for the premises. In accordance with the revitalisation of the urban environment of Viikki and the basic mission of the university, the framework for learning and encounters must be improved in the current building. From the perspective of the different users of the campus area, it must be possible to use the facilities more flexibly and diversely.

The furniture to be procured is divided into four (4) procurement entities. Tenders can be submitted for one or more furniture groups. Based on the tendering process, a supplier is selected for each furniture group. A parallel offer can be made for a maximum of two different furniture models per furniture group (a new offer can be made as a copy based on an earlier offer). The furniture to be refurbished is compared on a price basis.

Preliminary outfitting schedule: December 2023.
