Performance of the tasks of the regional partner in the federal model project "Unternehmen Revier" in accordance with the contract and service description

As part of the federal model project "Unternehmen Revier", structural processes in the former lignite areas, such as the district of Helmstedt, are to be accompanied, designed and developed. For this purpose, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection provides funds of up to €800,000 per year to be invested in projects to promote structural change.

According to the guideline for the promotion of structural adjustment measures in lignite mining areas within the framework of the federal model project "Unternehmen Revier" of 16 August 2021, the implementation of the programme requires the work of a processing and regional partner in the respective district.

The tasks of the settlement partner are taken over by the district of Helmstedt and are defined by administrative agreement of 07.09.2021.

The tasks of the regional partner are primarily the implementation-oriented initiation, monitoring and coordination of projects to support the development process of structural change in the region on the basis of the "Regional Investment Concept" and the goals set out in the guideline of the BMWK.

The focus is also on the tasks of sustainable regional development across all districts with specific requirements for consulting, control of participation processes, concept development, project assessment and project management, program implementation, marketing and public relations as well as monitoring and evaluation.

The regional partner plays a decisive role in the development and initiation of projects and accompanies their implementation. It sensitizes local companies, institutions and potential project promoters to the processes of structural development and carries out actions to inform the population and implement the regional investment concept.

Regional demarcation:

The core area of the Helmstedt coalfield within the framework of "Unternehmen Revier" is the district of Helmstedt. It is located in eastern Lower Saxony, directly on the state border with Saxony-Anhalt.

In addition to the core district of Helmstedt, the cities of Braunschweig and Wolfsburg as well as the district of Wolfenbüttel are also part of the Helmstedt district.All these regions are directly or indirectly affected by the decline in lignite mining and or power generation.
