At the existing building complex HyFaB (Research Factory for Fuel Cell Technology - HyFaB1 and HyFaB2) in Ulm, Lise-Meitner-Str. 24, another part of the building is to be designed for the project "Powder-Up, Cathodentechnikum".

With the "Powder-Up" project, a pilot plant is being built at the ZSW in Ulm for upscaling the synthesis of tailor-made cathode materials from the 1-kilogram to the 10-kilogram to the 100-kilogram scale. In "Powder-Up", only industry-proven machines are used to guarantee powder production under near-industrial conditions - from the production of a so-called precursor and its further processing with lithium salts to the final surface post-treatment of the end product. Each individual step is decisive for the quality of these materials, which is to be investigated with the help of first-class analysis. To accommodate the facilities, a new 4-storey building with a passenger elevator (floor area 1.4 x 2.4 m, height 2.2 m, load capacity 1.6 t) will be built at Lise-Meitner-Straße 24 by the beginning of 2024.

The new building with a basement accommodates the pilot plant on the ground floor (powder part) and on the first floor (felling part). On the second floor, the Electrochemistry and Sensitive Analysis (SEM...) will be located, the further analysis will be accommodated on the third floor.

The basement contains the rear connections to the existing HyFaB energy center, the necessary building infrastructure for the chemical plant (including storage and neutralization), as well as another production/analysis room for battery materials.
