On the right bank of the Elbe, in the area west of the village of Schönhausen, district of Stendal, between dike km 49.95 and 50.70, expansion measures are necessary, as the dike systems do not meet the necessary requirements for sufficient protection of the adjacent villages and infrastructure. The deficits are primarily reflected in the fact that, on the one hand, the dike height is too low compared to the design flood level plus freeboard. On the other hand, the dike does not have a continuous dike defence path, so that appropriate plant maintenance and repair is not given and the access road is not guaranteed in accordance with standards (DIN 19712) in the event of defence.
The dike foreland is characterized by extensive green spaces and individual trees or smaller groups of trees. The dike protection strips (5 m on each side from the foot of the dike) are free of woody plants. The immediate hinterland of the dike is wooded and also used for agriculture. At the beginning of construction from dike km 49.95 to approx. 50.15 (construction km 0+000 to 0+200), the temporary water "Schweinekuhle" is adjacent to the landside dike foot. In 2013, the dike was rehabilitated. The dike has been raised and widened on the water side. In the course of this, a mineral surface seal and a 3.0 m wide asphalt roadway were installed. The embankment has also been profiled on the land and water sides with a gradient of 1:3.
