The Norwegian Polar Institute would like Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (hereafter ADCPs) that will be implemented on permanent and drifting oceanographic vessels in observation systems in arctic or antarctic waters within ongoing and/or future monitoring and research projects.
The instruments must measure vertical profiles of seawater currents (speed and direction). The instruments must be equipped with a temperature and pressure sensor. They also ought to be able to include a bottom tracing or ice tracing module. ADCPs with a short range and an extra vertical beam for high resolution turbulence measurements and/or alternatives for measuring wave height and direction and/or the depth and drifting of sea ice will be of interest for certain purposes. The ADCPs will normally be used for one to three year placements.
