The existing school swimming pool in the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab, which has been in operation for more than 50 years, is in great need of renovation. As part of a feasibility study, various variants of a renovation or a new building were examined. Due to the enormous expansion pressure of the adjacent secondary school and the looming uneconomical renovation of the existing swimming pool, the decision was finally made to build the indoor pool at another location.
The new building is to be built centrally below the gymnasium's triple gymnasium on the school hill in the city of Neustadt an der Waldnaab. This will ensure good accessibility of the sports facility from the six surrounding schools in the future (grammar school, junior high school, vocational training center, special education support school, elementary and middle school). At the same time, it is possible to connect to the existing biomass heating system east of the grammar school in a short distance and energy requirements can be met using district heating. Since the property has a steep slope of
South to north (approx. 5.5 m) and is also heavily wooded, parking is to be realized in the south together with the triple gymnastic hall and the bathroom is located to the north of the property. In addition, the swimming pool - like its predecessor building - should be able to be used by the public and clubs in the afternoon and evening hours.
The aim of this process is to obtain high-quality, economical and sustainable planning for the specified location, which responds appropriately and in high quality to the respective functional and economic requirements.
