Metropolitan regions and medium-sized conurbations are booming on the edges. The pressure to use open spaces and landscapes in densely populated areas and suburban intermediate landscapes continues to increase.

Open spaces in suburban landscapes are to become multifunctional "all-rounder areas". Together with the informal network KORG, Conference of Regional Parks and Green Rings, the instrument of the regional park for securing, controlling and designing open spaces and landscape in the event of increased, overlapping usage interests is to be sharpened nationwide. In addition to an inventory, the analysis of changes and new usage requirements, a typification of open space and landscape strategies in regional parks and strategy development takes place. Through the exemplary testing of regionally coordinated strategies of open space and landscape development in case study regions, their protection and development should be made possible even under high usage pressure. The aim is to develop new concepts for the protection and development of landscapes and open spaces using the instrument of the regional park. For this purpose, guidelines are prepared in a design manual for regional parks and in a web platform.
