Open space (services landscape architecture)
Redesign of the ferdinand Drexler Weg green area
gradual development of 5-6 construction phases over approx. 30ha of green areas
with playgrounds, leisure facilities and infrastructure for different target and age groups
Landscape architect services open space planning according to HOAI § 38 ff in connection with Annex 11
The langwasser district of the city of Nuremberg was planned and developed in the 50s and 60s of the last century as part of an urban planning ideas competition. The award-winning competition victory is characterized by a special green planning, which divides the planning area into manageable urban development units.
This requirement was consistently implemented and distinguishes the area to this day. The green area "Ferdinand-Drexler-Weg" represents the central area of the southeastern quadrant and the planning area forms living space for about 10,000 inhabitants outside the present green areas.
After almost 50 years, the master plan is intended to implement design, functional, ecological and climatic aspects in terms of planning.
Planungsaufgaben:
• Renewal and new construction of playgrounds with user participation
• New creation of youth play areas with user participation
• New creation of attractive areas for adults and seniors with user participation
• ecological development of the existing green areas
• Conversion of mature woody areas
• Development of existing woody structures – trees
In summary, a design, natural, functional and technical- optimal solution is expected, which also ensures integrative foundations and future-oriented approaches.
Framework conditions and objectives
The quarter is essentially characterized by the structuring green areas with older trees and represents an important potential from an open space planning point of view, which significantly determines the residential value.
Qualitative improvement: On the basis of the in-depth study "Urban Renewal Langwasser - Southeast" in the aftermath of INSEK Nuremberg-Southeast, the potential and necessity of the fundamental redesign of the approximately 30 hectares of green spaces was documented in a master plan and the goals and measures for five construction phases were formulated and coordinated.
The possibilities for use in the park are to be improved at all levels. The aim is to create attractive spaces for the people of the surrounding residential buildings as well as to integrate and develop ecologically valuable living spaces in the complex.
As a connecting element between these two goals, it is planned to offer information and educational offers on the ecological priorities, and to arouse interest and understanding for the ecological goals through various possibilities of nature observation.
• Development of a contemporary open space concept
• Improvement, renewal and expansion of the play areas
• Improving the ecological value and increasing the biodiversity of open spaces
• Creation of offers for open youth work and meeting places
• Designation of age-appropriate open spaces and creation of meeting places for seniors in public spaces
• Removal of barriers and gaps in the networking of open spaces and in the existing cycle/footpath network
• Replacement of underused sports offers (football) by versatile offers
• Adaptation of infrastructure to demographic change
The locations of the measures should be distributed as evenly as possible over the entire plant. Care is taken to ensure that the coexistence of the attractions is ensured for the different types of users and age groups without separating these groups too much from each other.
All measures and facilities must be planned and built under the premise of inclusion.
