The purpose of this abortion service is to provide a choice of abortion methods which are timely and safe depending on the personal health, gestation and circumstances of the individual woman, to reduce repeat abortions and unintended pregnancies and to promote better sexual health among women.
NHS Croydon Clinical Commissioning Group is seeking to:
— Provide a consistent, comprehensive, effective, accessible, legal and appropriate termination of pregnancy service to service users.
— Commission a quality service in line with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Guidelines for the ‘Care of Women Requesting Induced Abortion’ (the RCOG Guideline), the MEDFASH standards for sexual health services and current best evidence. Deviations from the RCOG guideline shall be notified in writing and agreed with the commissioner
— Ensure that risk of avoidable harm and complications to service users is minimised.
The intended outcomes of the new service include:
— Reducing unplanned and unwanted pregnancies;
— Reducing complications and avoidable harm arising from procedures provided by the service;
— Reducing the number of repeat abortions without limiting access to those women;
— Reducing the gestation at procedure;
— Increasing the number of women obtaining their choice of non-user dependent contraception.
