The University Hospital Regensburg intends to purchase an excimer laser for ophthalmology. Excimer lasers are widely established systems in ophthalmology that allow refractive and therapeutic interventions on the cornea. Examples of fields of application are laser surgical astigmatism correction (for example after keratoplasty, or after collagen crosslinking for keratoconus), the preparation of the cornea in corneal transplants, or phototherapeutic keratectomy.

With the acquisition of the excimer laser, the clinical care offer at the

University Eye Clinic Regensburg in the field of modern corneal surgery can be expanded and completed. In addition to the clinical application, new applications of the laser are to be investigated and its use in teaching (in particular specialist training) will be taught. The University Eye Clinic Regensburg is already an important competence center in the field of corneal surgery.

In order to maintain the existing position of the Regensburg University Eye Clinic in this field, a rapid procurement of the requested laser system for the continuation of existing surgical procedures and for the establishment of new, innovative surgical methods is unavoidable.
