Special checks and crown care on trees located in the area of overhead lines on above-ground subways and trams.
On the overhead lines of the above-ground subways and trams, which are operated by Ruhrbahn GmbH on behalf of the city of Essen, there are about 1824 trees owned by the city of Essen, of which about 270 are plane trees.
At regular intervals, a special check and crown care should be carried out on all trees on the plane trees. The trees are spread over about 42 tram sections, which run through the urban area of the city of Essen and are cross-district.
Due to the increased infestation of the plane tree, including massariac disease (Splanchnonema platani), plane trees in the city of Essen are checked every eight months on massaria, using an aerial platform or special work procedures, for example.
In 32 months, all plane trees on the tram and metro lines must be checked 4 times at intervals of 8 months.
On all 1832 trees, crown care must be carried out once within the 4 passages in addition to the special inspection. A rough preliminary planning determines the order, which, however, can change slightly due to the order situation and construction measures of Ruhrbahn GmbH. Approximately 459 trees are cared for in each passage.

Furthermore, approx. 30 acute orders / year (processing within 2 weeks) are to be processed along the Ruhrbahn overhead line during the entire term of the contract. These are usually individual trees that are worked on separately or within a planned section. Trees with acute orders receive crown care to restore road safety
The organization and execution of the tree work represent parallel work processes for the contractor. A high level of organizational effort is required. The scheduling of the special inspections and crown care takes place in joint meetings with all parties involved. There are about 2 or 3 sessions per round. The first joint meeting is scheduled for 14.11.2023, 1 p.m. The sessions last about 2.5 hours and take place either online or in person.
For acute orders, short-term arrangements must be made with the parties involved.
When placing an order, the entrepreneur is granted a period of 4 weeks before the first meeting. This must be used for preliminary planning and orientation.
