Description:
Project New treatment plant Gävle – turnkey contract in collaboration

Gävle municipality has decided to build a new wastewater treatment plant in Gävle. The reason is that the municipality is growing and the requirements for capacity and outgoing water quality are increasing. The current treatment plant, the Duvbacken wastewater treatment plant, was built in 1967 and will not be able to meet the new requirements.

Duvbacken currently has a temporary environmental permit that is limited in time until 31 December 2027 and which applies to 120,000 person equivalents (pe). The permit gives the business the opportunity to cope with the increased load and time to find the long-term most sustainable solutions for wastewater treatment.

Gävle municipality aims for the population to reach 120,000 people by 2030 and 150,000 people by 2050. This scenario means a significantly higher load on Duvbacken's wastewater treatment plant than the current and today's dimensioned load will probably be exceeded.

A new wastewater treatment plant will be built and it will be dimensioned for 150,000 p.e., but it will be possible to expand it at a later stage for a load equivalent to 200,000 p.e.

A more detailed description can be found in document 06.5 technical framework description according to the list of documents.
