Interventions and communication approach against distraction in traffic and driving under the influence Provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel

Road safety in the Netherlands is not doing well. The number of road deaths is not falling and the number of serious road injuries is rising.

In the national Strategic Road Safety Plan (SPV) and in the Implementation Programmes that result for the provinces and municipalities, priority is given to a number of risk themes, including Distraction in traffic and Driving under the Influence.

The provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland are working together on these themes. The assignment consists of 2 lots:

Lot 1: theme Distraction in traffic

Lot 2: theme Drunk driving

For both lots, the assignment entails the following:

-offering/developing and executing interventions

-drawing up and implementing a communication plan related to the interventions (project communication)

-drawing up and implementing a strategic regional media and communication plan (corporate communication)

Lot 1: theme Distraction in traffic

Lot 1 includes: Offering/developing and implementing interventions to prevent the target groups from using a mobile device in traffic and/or this from becoming a bad habit, in order to prevent and reduce risks.

Drawing up and implementing a communication plan with regard to the interventions (project communication).

Drawing up and implementing a strategic regional media and communication plan around the MONO campaign with a vision on the media and communication strategy. This is for the purpose of increasing reach and engagement.

Contributing to the social norm: when I participate in traffic, my phone is on do not disturb, I turn it off or leave it in my bag.

Lot 2: theme Drunk driving

Lot 2 includes: Offering/developing and implementing interventions to prevent the target groups from participating in traffic under the influence of alcohol (provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel) and under the influence of drugs (province of Gelderland) to prevent and reduce risks.

Drawing up and implementing a communication plan with regard to the interventions (project communication)

Drawing up and implementing a strategic regional media and communication plan around the Bob campaign (in Overijssel) with a vision on the media and communication strategy. This is for the purpose of increasing reach and engagement. In Gelderland, in addition to the Bob component in the plan, there will also be a vision of the media and communication strategy on drugs.

Setting a social norm: when I participate in traffic, I am sober and do not drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any combination of these.
