The culvert Ludwig-Jahn-Straße was built with an unknown year of construction from 5 concrete pipes of different diameters with end walls made of natural stone masonry and a widening covered by steel girders and concrete slabs.

It is in poor structural condition and is an obstacle to drainage in the water. In addition, it stands in the way of revitalization and renaturation of the Alte Luppe and the floodplain and restoration of the water ecological functionality and must therefore be replaced by a bridge that implements the requirements of the floodplain development concept and the "Living Luppe" project.

In coordination with the Office for Urban Green and Waters, hydraulic modelling was carried out, taking into account the upstream and downstream bridges in the forest and veneer path, which decisively determine the cross-section of the water.

It is preferable to erect it as a single-span structure, as this provides better hydraulic results. With the widening by a bridge, it will be possible to carry out the water profile of the Alte Luppe in the original dimensions under the structure.

The replacement building will be constructed with a width of 6.50 m (2 standard lanes of 3.25 m). A joint use for car, bicycle and pedestrian traffic is seen as uncritical, as there is little motorized traffic volume (coordination takes place, also on cross-section temporary bridge). There are no continuous separate sidewalks and no cycling facilities.

As part of the planning processing in the preliminary planning, a variant investigation must be carried out on possibilities of technical implementation with possibly other superstructure variants. In order to implement quality in public spaces and in building culture, emphasis is placed on an appealing design (railing, building view).

The traffic planning has already been awarded and must be taken into account, as well as the specialist planning on nature and the environment.

Only minor adaptation work to the existing structure is planned.

Construction is expected to begin in 2026.

The call for tenders will provide the basic services for:

- Object planning of engineering structures according to §43 HOAI for LPH 2 / optional LPH 3-7

- Structural design according to §51 HOAI for LPH 2 / optional LPH 3-6

As well as special services are awarded in stages as part of a negotiated procedure.
