Description:
Supply and installation of biogas microturbines for the ADEJE-ARONA WWTP, belonging to the Regional Wastewater Regeneration System of ADEJE-ARONA

The E.D.R.A.R. of Adeje – Arona, located in La Caldera del Rey, in the municipality of Adeje, is the main hydraulic infrastructure of the Regional System of Purification and Regeneration of Wastewater of Adeje – Arona. The wastewater treatment and regeneration facilities have a high energy consumption, derived mainly from the biological purification stage and, more specifically, the process of aeration of activated sludge. In the E.D.R.A.R. of Adeje - Arona there is an anaerobic treatment to reduce the organic load of the sludge generated in the purification processes. This anaerobic digestion produces biogas, which has a high content of methane CH4 and, therefore, cannot be emitted into the atmosphere due to its great environmental impact. It is for this reason that it is burned in a boiler to maintain the temperature of the digester above 37 ºC and the rest is incinerated in a safety torch. With the aim of improving energy efficiency, it is proposed to install a cogeneration plant that burns biogas, but generating electricity and heat simultaneously, so that the thermal needs of the digester will continue to be covered, but at the same time part of the electricity demand of the treatment plant will be covered. The aim is that all biogas can be recovered in cogeneration and not incinerated in a flask. The energy produced with biogas is considered renewable energy for the purposes of CO2 emissions, so it will not only produce economic savings by not having to import the electricity produced, but it will avoid the emissions that the generation of this electricity would have had according to the MIX of the Spanish electricity system.
