The city of Aachen intends to award planning services for structural engineering for the new construction of a daycare center with at least 5 groups in connection with two affiliated single-field sports halls.
A design competition has been held for the planning services for buildings and outdoor facilities. The winning design was created by the Aachen-based office kadawittfeldarchitektur GmbH.
Sustainability aspects play an essential role in the planning and implementation of the measure. The construction project is to be evaluated according to the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) certification system and achieve DGNB certification with the "Gold" seal of approval. The aim is to achieve CO2 neutrality during construction and operation.
The winning multi-storey design envisages a construction as a timber-hybrid building using R-concrete. Furthermore, the bricks of the old existing building are to be secured in selective dismantling and reinstalled in the new façade.
In addition, there is a desire for a façade greening and the installation of a photovoltaic system.
The new building amounts to around 1,610 m2 of gross floor space for the new construction of the daycare centre and around 1,770 m2 of gross floor space for the new construction of the 2 single-field sports halls.
