The STI operates public transport in and around Thun and plans to transition its vehicle fleet to electric drive by 2036. Only battery-operated electric buses are to be used. The first electric vehicles are scheduled to go into operation during the next procurement round with the timetable change in December 2026. This transition requires the establishment of a new charging infrastructure at the facilities of the STI. The main depot of the STI, Schwäbis, is located in Thun, where a new charging facility is planned in the existing premises. This includes the installation of 10 charging rectifiers with a total of 48 charging points for charging the vehicles. The procurement includes the supply and installation of the necessary cable routes as well as the pulling and laying of the required cable connections between the low-voltage main distribution and the charging stations, as well as between the charging stations and the charging points.
