Description:
After-care services for the domestic waste landfill of Gallenbach

The Free State of Bavaria — represented by the Government of Swabia — is responsible for the care and follow-up of the domestic waste landfill of Gallenbach. The support, organisation and partial implementation of the necessary follow-up measures shall be tendered throughout Europe in an open procedure on the basis of the Public Procurement Ordinance (VgV). The necessary measures result from the general requirements of regulated landfill storage, from planning approval decisions, planning approvals, orders, decisions, approvals, approvals, acceptance and other relevant legal requirements, as well as from the operations manual for HMD Gallenbach. The services are partly to be provided on a regular basis (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual), partly on an accident, weather or vegetation as required and partly at the request of the AG. The domestic waste landfill (HMD) Gallenbach, town of Aichach, district of Gallenbach (Unterneul 8, 86551 Aichach), is located in the district of Aichachach-Friedberg, directly on the B 300 between the villages of Aichach and Friedberg near the BAB exit Dasing. The HMD Gallenbach has an area of approximately 14 hectares and was filled in the period from 1972 to 1991 with approximately 2.5 million m3 house and commercial waste. The bulk heights are max. 35 m. The landfill was closed in spring 1991. With the exception of the so-called “old garbage mountain” in the south-west area, the landfill has a base waterproofing. In 1992 and 1993, remedial measures were carried out at the landfill, and surface waterproofing and recultivation was completed. In the course of this work, the leachate collection system was repaired, the active degassing system was renovated, the surface water basins were rebuilt, a new leachate basin was built and the network of routes was finally expanded. On 31 August 1995, the landfill driver filed for bankruptcy. Since then, the management and follow-up of the landfill has been carried out by way of replacement by the Free State of Bavaria, represented by the Government of Swabia.
