New assignment of minority interest in FES by the city of Frankfurt am Main to a strategic private partner.
The city of Frankfurt am Main is currently carrying out municipal waste management on the basis of an institutionalized Public Private Partnership (IPPP) founded in 1998. The cooperation company is the Frankfurt Disposal and Service GmbH (FES), in which the city of Frankfurt am Main currently holds a 51% stake and Remondis GmbH & Co. KG 49%. Total sales of the FES Group in the financial year 2018 amounted to approximately EUR 241 million. As at 31.12.2018, the group employed a total of 1,869 people. The private minority shareholding of 49% in FES is to be reallocated on 1.1.2021 with a contract period of 20 years by way of a share deal. The current private minority shareholder has agreed to this approach.
The reallocation takes place comprehensively, ie the current business portfolio of FES remains unchanged in structure and today consists of about 40% of so-called "statutory business" with the city of Frankfurt am Main and about 60% of so-called "third party business" (commercial sector).
The overall procedural goal of the City of Frankfurt am Main is the long-term securing of a strategic partnership in the area of municipal waste management with a private partner in order to master the challenges of the future, particularly in the areas of digitization, emission reduction, noise reduction and green procurement. On this occasion, at the same time, the currently differing durations of the essential "individual service contracts" existing between the city of Frankfurt am Main and the FES will be harmonized and newly concluded for the duration of the cooperation (ie also for 20 years), in particular on waste disposal, street cleaning and biowaste utilization become.
