The medicine handling chain starts when a medicine is prescribed, via delivery from a pharmacy /wholesaler to the preparation and distribution of the medicine. ICT systems are used in electronic medicine handling to carry out and document the various stages in the medicine handling chain in order to ensure that the correct patient gets the correct medicine, in the correct dose, at the correct time in the correct way.

The objective of the Electronic Medicines Management system is:

— Increased quality for the services in the health and care sector in Rauma,

— Prevent abuse and loss,

— Reduce the discarding of the medicine stock,

— Option for providing statistics report.

The Electronic Medicines Management system shall be used in the new Rauma Health Centre and comprises a central unit with a main stock for medicinal and several mobile units that shall be placed in the departments.

The procurement has numerous requirements in relation to the legislation and ICT.
