The main aim of this study is to provide data and analyses on the ICT sector and on ICT research, development and innovation in the EU and in major developed and emerging economies of the world. The study has the following 5 specific objectives, addressed by 7 work packages:

1. produce comparable data on the size of the ICT sector — and its subsectors — on business expenditures in ICT R&D, and on public funding of ICT R&D;

2. produce comparable data on the media and content sector and on a complementary subsector;

3. produce and apply a nowcasting methodology so to estimate data for the most recent years with regard to the abovementioned data;

4. produce data on the ICT content by industry;

5. produce a methodology and data on the international trade by ICT sectors, and on bilateral trade in ICT goods and services, and its breakdown by sectors.
