1. Introduction.

1.1. The confocal microscope system covered by this specification is intended to provide the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge with multidimensional multimode confocal imaging capabilities.

1.2. This system will be used to study a variety of fixed and live specimens including cultured cells, small model organisms such as C elegans and tissue explants.
