According to Step AS35, the offer in the Basel area is to be condensed in regional traffic. An S-Bahn every quarter of an hour is planned for the Basel to Aesch BL line. For the realization, the turning of the S-Bahn trains ending in Aesch requires an expansion of the existing system. In a preliminary study, different variants were examined for the location of the turning track, the infrastructure elements and the shortening of the train following time and a best variant was recommended for further processing.
