The new building of the Chemikum, 2.BA the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, is to be built with approx. 4,500m2 NF (NUF 1-7) and approx. 34,800m2 GFA on the grounds of the NatFak Campus South in Erlangen. This is intended to serve the research and teaching of the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy at NatFak as well as the Department of Didactics with the chairs/units: Physical and Theoretical Chemistry (Physical Chemistry (PC1 and PC2), Theoretical Chemistry (TC) and Catalytic Interface Research), Inorganic Chemistry (Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry (AC1), Inorganic and General Chemistry (AC2) and Bioinorganic Chemistry, Computational Chemistry Center (CCC), Didactics of Biology and Molecular Biology (CCC). Chemistry, premises for common use (e.g. workshops, office) and the Department of Facility Management at FAU. The planning includes the building planning (LPH 3-8) including fire protection verification (GK5 special construction), 3D modelling including overall coordination, as well as higher-level coordination of the associated development measure.
With around 40,000 students, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is the third largest university in Bavaria and is spread over various locations in Erlangen and Nuremberg.
The existing building of the Chemikum 1.BA in the south area - Organic Chemistry (OC) and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (PC) - will be 2.BA on the parking space to the east between the Biologikum and the multi-storey car park, supplemented by the new building of the Chemikum. It is used for research and teaching by the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Department of Didactics with the chairs and units:
- Physical and Theoretical Chemistry (Physical Chemistry (PC1), Physical Chemistry (PC2), Theoretical Chemistry (TC) and Catalytic Interface Research)
- Inorganic Chemistry (Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry (AC1), Inorganic and General Chemistry (AC2) and Bioinorganic Chemistry (independent W2 professorship)
- Computer-Chemie-Center (CCC)
- Didactics of Biology
- Didactics of Chemistry
- as well as rooms for shared use (e.g. workshops and office) and FAU's Department of Facility Management
The new building, LPH2 planned in the project document (PU), connects to the central forum of the Chemikum 1.BA and takes up the line of buildings of the Biologikum, located to the north, in the heterogeneous surroundings of the neighboring university buildings in the eastern area towards Nikolaus-Fiebiger-Straße.
The massive volume of the 2.BA is divided into 4 cubes (components A to D). This basic structure, based on the highly efficient flexible laboratory module, is centrally connected axially from north to south via the centrally located circulation levels. Functionally, the building is structured vertically in 6 levels with corresponding organizational units.
