The Africa Community Access Programme (AFCAP) is a programme of applied research and knowledge dissemination funded by the UK Government though the Department for International Development (DFID).
AFCAP is promoting safe and sustainable rural access in Africa through research and knowledge sharing between participating countries and the wider community. Cardno Emerging Markets (UK) Ltd is contracted by DFID to manage AFCAP.
A 24 month multi-national rural access project will be let, valued at approximately GBP 500 000 to address new maintenance and asset enhancement approaches to achieve affordable and sustainable rural access in Africa. This will involve researching existing international knowledge and experience; current practices; institutional, justification, financing, operational and policy obstacles; alternative strategies, better procurement approaches and technologies; trials and best value options. This will include the documenting of case studies.
