The University of Westminster is reviewing the health and well-being services that will be offered to students for the next 3 academic years.
Requirements: Provision of a nurse based on the Harrow site and a specialist mental
health nurse (or alternative) based in the West End (Term-time only).
i. Attendance. The ‘Harrow’ nurse will be expected on-site for 5 hours per day during term time. The mental health specialist nurse will be expected to work across sites for an equal number amount of time over term-time. For this role there may be some out of hours activity required.
ii. Services offered (Harrow Nurse).
— Nurses will be expected to offer daily appointments during in term time;
— Proactive campaigns and support to those attending the service;
— Support for on-campus first aiders in the event of an emergency;
— Regular campaigns on health awareness issues such as Chlamydia, drugs, alcohol;
— smoking, healthy eating etc.;
— Offering a travel health advice and vaccination service (this will incur vaccination costs to the student);
— Advice and support on mental health issues of students;
— Links with Community Mental Health Teams;
— Assist with registering students with their local GP's.
iii. Services Offered (Mental Health Nurse/Practitioner);
— Take referrals across sites to see students with mental health issues;
— Liaising with the Disability Learning Support team on medical issues arising;
— Liaise with academic and administrative staff.
iv. Integration into the university. Nurses will be expected to devote some time to understand how the university operates and participate in appropriate training and on university groups relating to the health and well being of students. They will work closely with the university counselling service and the Disability Learning Support team. They will also link with the University Safety and Well Being Team as required. The mental health nurse/practitioner will be required to liaise particularly with staff academic and other staff on helping students with mental health issues.
v. Reporting. The university will expect a termly report on the numbers of students seen
and activities undertaken to go to the Head of Student Services (or designated manager).
vi. Line management. The staff will be managed by the contractor. The contractor will provide the university with termly statistics on activities undertaken. A formal annual review meeting will be held at the end of each spring term to review the contract.
