Brief description of the project:
This extract from the specifications describes the loose furnishings for the hall of the new DLR headquarters in Cologne Porz. The new DLR office complex building 5 at the Cologne-Porz site has a usable area of approx. 9,300 m
The design by KSG provides for a central building that extends into the space as a solitaire in a star shape.
In the middle of the building there is an atrium that connects the individual wings of the building via a long staircase, galleries and bridges over the ground floor and the 3 upper floors, creating a modern, communication-oriented building with short distances, central meeting rooms and attractive Communication zones.
The furnishing of the atrium should support its identity-creating and connecting character.
Break areas and communication zones are created that invite informal exchange between the departments.
The kitchenettes (ground floor to third floor) open to the atrium are provided with seating niches, which are supplemented with loose furniture in the form of bistro tables and canteen chairs. In the tea kitchens, too, bar stools are set up along the parapet, designed as a high table, facing the air space.
Bar stools (approx. 32 pieces) and chairs (approx. 24 pieces) have a simple plastic shell (color preferably dark gray or alternatively black, white, purple or rust red) and a filigree sled frame coated in the same color as the shell.
The bistro tables (approx. 24 pieces) with a round top, i. 70 cm, in light solid oak or oak decor, have a round center column with a cross base, coated to match the chair frames.
A total of 19 lounge-like seating islands will be placed on all floors in the galleries, in front of the conference rooms and in an open corridor zone (outside the escape routes). These consist of upholstered elements chained together to form segments of a circle, with a backrest and base in two differently sized configurations. Diameter of the small configuration: approx. 300 cm, diameter of the large configuration approx. 400 cm.
The hard-wearing upholstery fabric is used in different colors to match the color concept of the building: muted purple tones and rust-red.
These seating islands are supplemented by approx. 50 round side tables, i. approx. 50 cm, matches the bistro tables.
In the entrance area on the ground floor there is also a waiting area made up of 8 upholstered stools of different sizes (d 65 cm - 135 cm) for visitors; Upholstery fabrics such as seating islands.
The architects created a comprehensive color and material concept for the entire building. The loose furniture in the hall is an important part of this concept. In addition to the functionality and economy of the furniture, special emphasis is placed on its design and the interaction with the color concept.
All furniture used in the atrium is subject to increased fire protection requirements, which must be met.
Fire behavior of bar stools and chairs:
The frame is made of a non-combustible material, A according to DIN EN 13051.
The seat shell is made of at least a flame-retardant material, B or C according to DIN EN 13051.
There are no minimum requirements for smoke development (s) and burning droplets (d) for the seat shell.
The seat shell does not necessarily have to be tested according to DIN EN 1021 part 2, provided a certificate for flame retardancy according to EN 13051 is presented.
Fire behavior of bistro tables and side tables:
The frame is made of a non-combustible material, A according to DIN EN 13051.
The table top consists of at least a flame-retardant material, B or C according to DIN EN 13051; Minimum requirements for smoke development: s 2 (average smoke development) Minimum requirement for flaming droplets: d1 Carrier and coating are tested together.
