Ecological grass grazing

CNME has been working for nature in Maastricht and the region for more than 20 years. This is done according to traditional methods; custom work, carried out with expertise and with attention to nature and people. CNME focuses on the conservation and expansion of biodiversity in nature management. CNME connects people and nature with participation projects and activities.

CNME carries out ecological management for 25 nature reserves with an area of approximately 121 hectares on behalf of the municipality of Maastricht. A large part of the areas consists of flowery grasslands. These grasslands are managed at the favorable times of mowing and grazing.

The grazing with sheep is part of the management that the CNME carries out on behalf of the municipality of Maastricht. The most important objective for sheep grazing is the ecological development of grasslands and biodiversity. Sheep grazing is used to make grasslands richer and more colorful. By grazing at favorable times (taking into account flowering and seed setting of plants), grasslands can continue to develop botanically. For grassland management, pressure grazing is mainly used, this takes place in a short period with a large herd.
