"Gågatan" is located in the heart of Ystad and is one of the city's most important streets for citizens, traders and visitors – with a varied range of trade, service and food and drink. The street's redevelopment is primarily driven by the need to replace the existing Va facility where the centuries-old water and sewer lines are in poor condition and need to be replaced with new ones. In connection with laying new sewer lines in the street, we will also review the appearance of the street above ground.
The assignment concerns the project management for the reconstruction of Stora Östergatan in Ystad.
A new pipeline system will be laid in the street, where stormwater and wastewater will be separated and only the wastewater will go to the treatment plant. Among other things, it will reduce the pressure on the pipes in the city in the event of a downpour.
A new water pipe with drinking water will also be laid in the street.
In connection with laying new sewer lines in the street, we will also review the appearance of the street above ground. Today, there are deficiencies in accessibility with uneven ground cover and low accessibility for pedestrians. The street furniture also needs to be reviewed. The redevelopment of Stora Östergatan will strive towards a more accessible and flexible street, which retains the cozy, small-scale character that exists today. We will take a comprehensive approach to the street's functions, furniture and equipment, which includes work such as new paving, seating and plantings.
The project is a collaboration between the Technical Department's VA unit and the project unit. The VA unit is responsible for the planning and operation of the municipality's VA facilities.
In the project unit, project managers, construction managers, landscape architects and traffic engineers work with planning and building the municipality's public places such as streets, parks and squares.
