In Magdeburg-Westerhüsen, at Zackmünder Straße 1, the existing, two-stream primary school is being renovated and expanded. The space program depicts the school as well as after-school care uses. The space requirement is generated from a number of 200 students.

The four-storey extension section was planned on the south side in order to provide barrier-free access to the existing section with an elevator. The elevator is planned as a through-loader to connect the entrance level to the higher ground floor level of the existing building. Only a part of the after-school care area (oldest construction phase 1885) is not barrier-free. Here, the archive and an after-school care room are planned on the lower level, toilets for students and teachers on the upper level. A barrier-free toilet is located in the new component.

The toilet wing on the south side, built in GDR times, the attic structure with a pent roof on the part of the building from 1912 and the external escape staircase will be demolished for the implementation of the extension part. The usable rooms of the extension section are organized along a middle, necessary corridor in the same way as the existing building. The auditorium/dining room is to accommodate a mobile stage and seating for theatre performances.

As in the existing building, the access road to the building remains unchanged from the north-eastern access road to the property. The main entrance will be rebuilt barrier-free in the new part of the building. The old main entrance in the existing part of the building will be retained as a 2nd escape route. Delivery traffic will continue to be carried out from the south-eastern access road to the property, as in the existing building.
