In accordance with the provisions of the Fire Protection Act, the district of the Duchy of Lauenburg performs the supra-local tasks of ensuring defensive fire protection and technical assistance as a mandatory self-administration task. For the implementation of this sovereign task, the Fire Brigade Technical Centre (FTZ) is located in the municipality of Elmenhorst, Lankener Weg 26. The FTZ is used for the accommodation of vehicles and equipment, the maintenance and testing of equipment and material as well as the implementation of training courses.
For the fire brigades in its area of responsibility, the district of the Duchy of Lauenburg must create a central range of courses and - if it cannot be ensured in any other way - set up and maintain a "fire-fighting train dangerous goods" (LZ-G) to provide assistance in the event of damage with hazardous substances and goods. The tasks listed were transferred by public law from the district of the Duchy of Lauenburg to the district fire brigade association of the Duchy of Lauenburg (KFV).
In addition to the tasks under the Fire Protection Act, the KFV also takes over the inspection and maintenance of the district's own disaster control vehicles. It was also contractually agreed with the district fire brigade association that the district of the Duchy of Lauenburg would make the FTZ property in Elmenhorst with all structural facilities and facilities available to it free of charge for the performance of its tasks in the field of fire protection and disaster prevention.
In accordance with the public law contract, the kitchen provided in the FTZ serves on the one hand to supply the course participants. On the other hand, it is also intended to support the supply of emergency services and those affected in connection with the management of major emergencies and disasters.
In addition, the digital radio service point of the Duchy of Lauenburg district is housed in the premises of the FTZ. The course and training centre regularly hosts training and further education events for civil protection.
