The West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group (WHCCG) has highlighted local community phlebotomy services as a priority for improvement.
WHCCG covers a population of 536,073 in an area of 2242.4 square kilometres (865.8 square miles).
The key objective is to implement a locally delivered community phlebotomy service that meets demand, provides good local access for patients and is convenient, timely and high quality.
Increasing the capacity in the community settings will allow local access for patients and a movement of activity from acute to the community setting is expected.
The service must have the capability to respond to future changes in demand, for example; increased drug monitoring, more patients being managed on a shared care basis, health checks and to meet the needs of those with long term conditions in Primary Care whilst offering best value.
11 geographical 'lots' have been identified across the WHCCG. Within each ‘lot' a comprehensive map of access in terms of venues and in and out of hours will be procured.
The 11 lots cover the following populations:
Lots 1 and 2 - Winchester and Rural – PBRA Weighted Populations 51 072 and 81 664,
Lot 3 – Totton – PBRA Weighted Population 37 737,
Lot 4 – Waterside – PBRA Weighted Population 43 486,
Lots 5, 6 and 7 – West New Forest - PBRA Weighted Populations 41,876 & 48,334 and 41 501,
Lot 8 – Eastleigh Southern Parishes - PBRA Weighted Population 42 674,
Lots 9 and 10 - Eastleigh North and Test Valley South - PBRA Weighted Population 62 704 and 37 415,
Lot 11 – Andover - PBRA Weighted Population 54 493,
