Delivery and installation of 4 fume cupboards as a working area for powder applications

General

With the Powder-Up! A pilot plant is being built at ZSW for upscaling the synthesis of tailor-made cathode materials from the 1-kilogram to the 10-kilogram to the 100-kilogram scale. The materials will be made available to research and industry partners for cell development.

In Powder-Up! Only industry-proven machines are used to guarantee powder production under near-industrial conditions - from the production of a so-called precursor and its further processing with lithium salts to the final surface post-treatment of the end product. Every single step is crucial for the quality of these materials, which are examined with the help of first-class analytics. As part of Powder-Up! the following service must be offered:

Installation of large and medium-sized powder fume cupboards in workrooms

The fume cupboards offered must be equipped with a recirculating air system with HEPA filtration, which creates a laminar flow in the room, as well as with a HEPA filter system. They are therefore designed for personal and environmental protection. Targeted air injection and laminar flow technology can be applied to achieve compliance with applicable regulations and optimal protection.

Product or pollutants released during cleaning and maintenance work are pulled along by the above-mentioned system, which generates a flow from the hood front of the respective workstation to the rear of the fume hood, and picked up by the extraction opening on the rear wall. On particles, an impulse is generated by the downward cross-flow for deposition on the ground or the particle can be separated in the filter.

Despite the best possible filtration, persons may only enter the flow area of the large fume hoods with respiratory protection for cleaning and maintenance work. At the same time, the powder fume hoods protect people, products and the environment. For better protection of the product and people, the supply air is fed to the work area via large outlets as a low-turbulence displacement flow.

The outlet velocity at the outlets should be within the permissible range according to the state of the art in order to ensure laminar flow in the working area. Compliance with the permissible average air velocity is an award criterion. In this way, a laminar, low-turbulence displacement flow in the working area is ensured. All components are designed in such a way that they are easy to clean, i.e. have as few corners or inaccessible areas as possible. In addition, they must be resistant to a low relative humidity of < 20%.

Materials

Unless otherwise described, all components are made of stainless steel 1.4301, visible surfaces are brushed, Ra < 0.8 μm. Only sealant (silicone) that has been tested and approved for cleanroom suitability must be used. Great importance is attached to a warranty period of 2 years.

Modes

Operation of the system via touch panel with the following functions:

• Attachment ON/OFF. When operating, luminaire (green). In case of malfunction light (red).

• Fault quits. In the event of a malfunction, an additional acoustic signal is provided by a horn.

• Lighting on/off

• Display faults plain text

• "Stand by" button – operation

The system is switched and controlled via a control cabinet incl.

control and all electrical components. The installation of the control cabinet is carried out by arrangement. The relevant measurand for the upcoming flow is the pressure loss of the flowing air. This is constantly monitored and is thus alarmed in the event of a shortfall or exceedance. Corresponding operating and fault messages are reported to the building management system (BMS) and can be tapped on site via potential-free signal contacts on terminals.
