The Uckermark Theatres Schwedt (ubs) are a flagship of the city, which have an impact far beyond the city limits. The theatre with its extensions and the adjoining open-air stage near the water has a supra-regional cultural significance.
The building was erected between 1974 and 1978 as a typical cultural centre for that time and was intended to offer a wide range of cultural activities for the city and the surrounding area. By concentrating on its use as a theatre operation, this function as a cultural centre in the region has been maintained to this day.
In recent decades, reconstruction and renovation work has been carried out to preserve the functionality and fabric of the building. In 2019, the planning for urgently needed conversions of the functional rooms as well as an even more urgent energy-efficient renovation of the building envelope and the building services systems was commissioned. In the ongoing planning and the awarding of the construction work for the renewal of the glass façades, which has already begun, the building was surprisingly placed under monument protection in 2021.
The now imminent massive delays in the implementation of the measure due to necessary replanning and new tenders as well as the associated additional costs, which could not have been absorbed by either the budget or the funding body, made it necessary to cancel the planning contract and the award procedure (construction) that had been started.
The aim of the planning contract advertised here is the adaptation and continuation of the project until completion on the basis of the existing planning documents, taking into account the now applicable requirements from the already existing monument preservation report.
