In the technical strategy of the German Weather Service (DWD) the improvement of regional climate modeling as a tool for climate consultation is stated as one goal. The investigations are increasingly aimed at the urban areas. Here, vertical temperature and wet profiles as well as wind data are to be recorded in a high temporal resolution. For this reason, the DWD intends to obtain a mobile Doppler LiDAR to determine the required values in order to determine the wind distributions and mass flows that are important for the climatological models.

The system to be delivered is used in various DWD projects. Several short inserts in a row or longer lasting operations (several months) in 24/7 operation are possible.
The system consists of the following components:
- Doppler-LiDAR, which scans the upper hemisphere including control computer,
- evaluation and presentation software,
- Documentation.
After the delivery and commissioning of the system, a user training is to be carried out.
Furthermore, services must be provided for a period of at least 24 months.
