WSW Energie & Wasser AG owns or commissions three waterworks in Wuppertal, Wermelskirchen and Düsseldorf.

In detail:

- WW Benrath, Am Trippelsberg 3, Düsseldorf

- WW Dabringhausen, Auf der Schanze 1, Wermelskirchen

- WW Herbringhausen, Herbringhauser Talsperre 1, Wuppertal

Both agglomerated hard coals and coal-coconut shell coal mixtures are used. In 2023, a total of around 370 tonnes of activated carbon from all three plants are to be reactivated, screened and replenished to the quantity delivered with losses supplemented by hard coal or coconut shell coal. The reactivation can take place both in batches to several filters, as well as as individual retrieval of a filter.

In detail:

Collection of hard coal-based activated carbon and mixtures of stone and coconut shell activated carbons of originally 8 x 30 mesh. in the waterworks of the AG, reactivation of the coal incl. compensation of the sieving and burning loss with agglomerated stone or coconut shell coal approved by the AG according to DIN EN 12915 Part 1 and re-delivery. The reactivated activated carbons must meet the criteria of DIN EN 12915-2.

As a loss supplement,

- agglomerated hard coals 8x30 mesh. with a minimum iodine count of > 950 mg/g

- Coconut shell charcoal 8x30 mesh. with a minimum iodine number of > 1100 mg/g

to be used.
