In the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock (HRO), Petersdorfer Strasse connects the residential areas of Dierkow and Toitenwinkel in the direction of the seaport / Warnow tunnel, but also serves to develop the adjacent residential and commercial areas. At the same time, it is a diversion route for the parallel A19 motorway.

A traffic census in 2016 showed a DTV of 2540 vehicles / 24h with a truck share of 5%. This will increase due to the expected industrial settlements. In terms of traffic law, Petersdorfer Straße is located in the town. The design speed is 50 km / h. Most of Petersdorfer Straße was built with concrete slabs without an adequate substructure, the northern part is made with cobblestones. The roadway shows extensive damage along the entire route.

For pedestrians and cyclists there is sometimes a one-sided, very narrow path of max. 1.50 m wide available. Encounters are not possible on this width. This path ends at the depot. The route is mainly used by employees of the seaport. The fundamental expansion of the roadway and safe traffic systems for pedestrians and cyclists are necessary.
