The subject of the contract includes two high-performance computing systems and associated network and storage infrastructure along with services, optional product servers, maintenance, software provisioning, infrastructure, and external data center space (server housing/co-location).
The systems are distributed across the following locations:
▪ DMRZ Offenbach am Main (DMRZ-OF)
▪ External co-location site (DMRZ-EX)
▪ DMRZ Potsdam (DMRZ-PD, optional)
▪ DMRZ Euskirchen (DMRZ-EU, optional)
The availability of the systems at each site must be at least 95%, and for production at the sites DMRZ-OF and DMRZ-EX combined, it must be 99.9%. The provision of external housing (co-location) is intended for accommodating the second, independent HPC system for research and climate calculations, possibly also an AI training cluster, a data management system, and other systems of the German Weather Service (DWD, client).
The overall system is divided into the following phases:
▪ Phase 0: Migration phase, acceptance, system service
▪ Phase 1: System service, performance increase, and acceptance
▪ Phase 2: System service, optional performance increase, and acceptance
▪ Phase 3 (optional): Continued operation, possibly performance increase and acceptance
▪ After contract end (optional): Dismantling, disposal, and decommissioning of the systems
The decision on whether the option DMRZ-Euskirchen will be taken by the German Weather Service will be made by the time of the award.
The detailed description as well as all requirements can be found in the annexes "Specification of Services" and "Performance Matrix" and will be made available to the interested party after submission of the confidentiality agreement.
