The Euregio Maas-Rhein (EMR) represents a dynamic and heterogeneous economic region. It is characterized by a high industrial density, a strong mid-sized sector, innovative research landscapes, and a central geographical location in the tri-border area of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. At the same time, the EMR - like all of Europe - faces the central challenge of fundamentally transforming its energy supply to climate-neutral, resilient, and affordable energy systems. Hydrogen serves an important function in this regard. Hydrogen is considered a central building block for the decarbonization of energy-intensive industries and the integration of renewable energies into industrial processes. It offers significant potential along the value chain to increase energy efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions, and secure competitiveness in the EMR. Against this background, the Interreg project "EMR H2-HUBs" was initiated. The services being tendered are part of work package 2 of the project. The project pursues a practical, cross-border approach to bring together companies, public institutions, and project partners from the EMR in a coordinated process.
LOT-0001
City of Aachen.
The goal is to support the establishment of an integrated, economically viable, and technically coordinated hydrogen economy in the EMR. The tender aims to award individual and qualified consulting services that support selected companies from the Aachen region in systematically analyzing their energy and process structures, developing technology-neutral and economically viable transformation paths for decarbonization, with an equal consideration of various renewable energy carriers, efficiency options, and process optimizations, identifying potential applications of hydrogen in production and energy supply, quantifying hydrogen demands, and exploring suitable funding and investment options for further implementation. The entire consulting process should generally be technology-neutral. However, a focus will be on the integration of hydrogen technologies as an element of the transformation. The consulting should enable companies to evaluate both the technological as well as economic and organizational prerequisites for a transition to H2-based processes and derive concrete recommendations for action.
