The Diocesan Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Cologne e.V. intends to commission the preparation of up to 86 individual greenhouse gas balances according to Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 of the GHG Protocol for social organizations in the Archdiocese of Cologne as part of a project funded by the National Climate Protection Initiative. The expected minimum commissioning is 72 greenhouse gas balances. Currently, 72 organizations have expressed their intention to create a balance within the framework of the project; accordingly, the currently anticipated amount is 72 balances. However, the client aims to commission the preparation of all 86 greenhouse gas balances.

The associations and institutions of the Caritas in the Archdiocese of Cologne operate numerous residential and non-residential facilities and are therefore significant players in climate protection. At the same time, many of these associations and institutions currently lack the necessary climate protection expertise and an adequate data basis to create greenhouse gas balances. As part of the project for climate protection coordination funded by the Municipal Directive of the National Climate Protection Initiative, professional greenhouse gas balances are to be prepared for up to 86 selected organizations of different sizes and professional focuses within Caritas in the Archdiocese of Cologne (for the members of the Diocesan Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Cologne, including small local and specialist associations, but also complex associations with many locations/types of facilities, providers of individual or multiple stationary facilities for elderly or youth assistance or hospitals, etc.; hereinafter: providers). A service provider is to be commissioned with this tender for that purpose. The balances are intended to reflect the Corporate Carbon Footprint of the respective associations or providers. Greenhouse gas emissions according to Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 of the GHG Protocol are to be considered, with the depth of data collection for Scope 3 emissions varying depending on the available data. The greenhouse gas balances serve to capture and document the status quo of the direct and indirect emissions of the providers. This is aimed at creating the basis for targeted climate protection measures and enabling providers to systematically reduce their emissions.
