Delivery, installation, commissioning as well as maintenance and operation of a large battery storage system (BESS) at the location of the Fieseler Foundation in the industrial area of the city of Kassel

The STW intends to build a BESS at a suitable location in the industrial area of the city of Kassel. The completion of the BESS is planned for early 2027. The project includes a stand-alone BESS that should have the necessary functions to enable flexible marketing in various energy markets. These include system services (FCR, aFRR, etc.), the momentary reserve market, and revenue optimization on the spot market. The BESS will be connected to the distribution network via a 10 kV switchgear of the local distribution network operator. The planned grid connection capacity is estimated to be around 9 MW. A grid connection approval is in place. The planned capacity of the BESS should provide at least 18 MWh (c-rate = 0.5). The BESS is to be planned, procured, and installed as part of an EPC-light approach. The EPC contract includes the following aspects: system design, delivery of all essential equipment for the BESS units, e.g., batteries including enclosures and inverters, relevant SCADA systems, cabling and wiring of the BESS units on-site, MV transformer, RMUs, cables from RMU to medium voltage switchgear, and the medium voltage switchgear. Furthermore, the contract includes the commissioning and testing of the BESS units as well as operation and maintenance (O&M) services. Tasks such as foundations are excluded from the scope of supply.
