The research results should lead to tools for policy and management to effectively and sustainably implement restoration management of forest soils (after sufficient reduction of nitrogen deposition) and thereby assist in achieving goals for the mentioned forest types and habitats. Policymakers will also gain more insight into the (im)possibilities of taking restoration measures in forests in relation to the current nitrogen deposition. Managers will gain more visibility on effective restoration measures that can be implemented to restore the forest soil sustainably once nitrogen deposition has sufficiently decreased. At the same time, insight will be gained into the applicable scale and frequency at which this measure could be applied if the effect is favorable. We expect that this research.
The practical trial in Noordenveld offers a unique opportunity to evaluate the measures taken (liming or acidification, possibly in combination with the application of sod or hay). A total of up to €300,000, including VAT (€247,933.88 excluding VAT), is available for the research.
