STORAGE - Hydrogen Infrastructure at THU.
The STORAGE project (“Long-term storage in energy-flexible, sector-integrated properties and districts”) is a research and demonstration project at the University of Applied Sciences Ulm. The aim is to advance the cross-sector flexibility of the energy system and to explore the integration of electricity, heat, and mobility sectors in energy-flexible properties. A central component is the development and testing of a hydrogen long-term storage system with a capacity of 50 MWh (approx. 1,500 kg), which enables seasonal energy storage. Furthermore, the project includes the establishment of an electrolytic hydrogen production system with a capacity of ~40 kWel (approximately 0.75 kg H2 production capacity per hour), the heat extraction from the existing hydrogen-fired gas turbine, and the integration of these systems into the existing infrastructure of the THU energy park. More detailed information can be found in the specifications and the tender and contract documents.
