Ruhrbahn GmbH (hereinafter referred to as Ruhrbahn or the Client) was established in 2017 through the merger of the two transport companies Essener Verkehrs-AG (EVAG) and Mülheimer Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (MVG). Since then, it has provided attractive, efficient, and environmentally friendly local transport, thus improving the quality of life in Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr. As the largest transport company in the Ruhr area, it ensures the mobility of 140 million passengers per year with around 2,500 employees. With three subway lines, eleven tram lines, 54 bus lines, and 22 NE lines, Ruhrbahn offers customer-oriented, technically high-quality, and climate-friendly local transport.
To meet the requirements of climate-friendly local transport, Ruhrbahn plans to switch its entire bus fleet to emissions-free drive systems over the coming years. To achieve these goals, 52 solo fuel cell line buses are being tendered here as part of the initiative '1,000 Fuel Cell Buses NRW.' The delivery of the vehicles is to take place as follows: 21 solo fuel cell line buses in the 4th quarter of 2027 – no later than the end of the 1st quarter of 2028, and 31 solo fuel cell line buses in the 3rd quarter of 2028 – no later than the end of the 4th quarter of 2028. According to the funding notice, the delivery of all 52 solo fuel cell line buses must be completed by 31.12.2028 at the latest.
No partial awards will be made. The entire tender subject will be awarded to one bidder. Details about the scope of services will be specified in the tender documents.
