The tourism in Spreewald is one of the strongest drivers and motors of regional value creation in Brandenburg. With around 2.2 million overnight stays (2024), the region is among the leaders in the state and has great development potential for the structural expansion of day and overnight tourism due to its unique natural and cultural landscape (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) and its direct connection to Berlin and the East German major cities of Dresden, Leipzig, Magdeburg, as well as its national recognition. Due to the extensive changes as part of the structural transformation in Lusatia and the resulting declining water resources, tourism must also realign itself medium- to long-term. Therefore, the Spreewald Tourist Association e.V. wants to develop a new tourism strategy and the corresponding organizational structure in a four-year development process and needs professional support for its implementation.
