The Vehicle Department of Rheinbahn is responsible for the planning, operation, and maintenance of rail vehicles and buses. Rheinbahn plans to introduce a modern Workshop Management System (WMS) to pursue the following detailed objectives:
1. Exploit digital opportunities for order disposition and resource planning, as well as vehicle and material disposition.
2. Enable mobile execution of maintenance tasks (execution of work orders and feedback on completed services).
3. Reduce efforts through mobile data collection of order data.
4. Eliminate errors and disturbances from the maintenance process, e.g., due to duplicate and/or manual data entry.
5. Accelerate workflows by digitizing technical documentation.
6. Create a transparent data basis for deriving automated reports in maintenance.
7. Ensure the automatic exchange of relevant data with SAP (see also application / database / system 4.1), with the WMS serving as a complement to the leading maintenance system SAP.
8. The WMS should have a GUI developed in collaboration with Rheinbahn.
In this context, the WMS should enable a flexible, modularized implementation approach, allowing additional functionalities to be gradually added after the core functionalities have been implemented. The project language is assumed to be German.
