The AI platform includes a layer (AI service layer) in which various AI applications (= AI services) are operated. The different AI services process, structure, and analyze the individual health data and other relevant information of BARMER insured persons. Possible use cases include, for example, AI-supported chatbots, intelligent document organization, or process control. Medical evaluation, diagnosis, or therapy recommendation is explicitly not part of the AI platform.
The AI platform is to be developed step by step and continuously expanded. For this purpose, initially selected use cases with low complexity are to be implemented through an iterative approach. Building on this, the platform should be successively supplemented with further, increasingly complex AI services and functionalities.
The AI platform is to be integrated into the currently newly emerging modular eCare app architecture, which includes both the ePA and value-added services in the form of modules. The ePA as well as all other modules of the eCare app must be clearly separated from the AI platform so that the AI services do not have direct, uncontrolled access to the data of the insured persons.
To create a standardized and solid foundation for the use of AI technologies in the eCare app, a service provider for the development of an AI platform at the highest data protection level (ePA protection level, VAU environment) is to be engaged in a first step. This includes classic development, operation, testing, monitoring, and support activities as well as extensive documentation.
Within the framework of this market exploration, BARMER intends to identify the pool of providers for commissioning external IT service providers for the development and operation of an AI service layer for the eCare app.
Furthermore, BARMER wishes to gain knowledge about the offered pricing models, price-relevant factors, and the expected order volume. The results of the market exploration should provide a solid basis for the preparation of possible procurement documents, such as service descriptions, price sheets, contracts, for the subsequently planned procurement.
